A crowd estimated at about 1200 gathered in Crawfordville on Sunday Nov. 5, 1944 to honor the men and women in the Armed Forces from Taliaferro County. The occasion was the unveiling of the Taliaferro County Service Board. The board was unveiled by the gold star mothers who had lost sons in the war. They were Mrs. C. S: Roberts, Mrs. L. A. Cason and Mrs. C. S. Simons. The Board was accepted by Col. Hawes Cloud on behalf of the people of the county. Hon. T. H. McGibony was the principal speaker on the occasion. Music was furnished by the 216th Army Grand Force Band at Camp Gordon.

The ceremony was quite impressive and had the enthusical support of all citizens of the county.
